Strobing And Highlighting With Makeup Revolution

One of my favorite drugstore brands is Makeup Revolution and for Christmas I got two of the brands really awesome gift sets. In each one were highlighting/strobing products. Strobing and highlighting is all the rage now and it's not hard to see why. Who doesn't love glowing skin. Contouring has been the other big trend and out of the two I prefer strobing. Contouring isn't an easy technique to get right and unfortuately a lot of people can't master it, especially when it comes to heavy contour. Many people can't get the color right or blend it. It's very common to see lines of heavy bronzer over peoples faces. I'm a makeup artist myself and I avoid contour if I can. If someone really wants it done I will contour them.

The problem is a lot of people see Kim Kardashian being contoured and it looks good on her. Firstly because she always has a pro doing it for her. Secondly there is airbrushing and filters on her photos. No matter how hard you try, you will almost never get your actual face looking like an Instagram filter, unless you put one on your photos that is. The funny thing is, a large number of people seem to think that contour is a brand new trend, started by Kim herself. When in fact contouring has been around for decades and has long been a technique used by drag queens. It really annoys me when people think she started it, when she didn't.

Highlighting and strobing on the other hand is a lot easy to get the hang of and doesn't take lots of practice, unlike contouring. It also works on all skin tones. Heavy contouring can look weird on people with paler skin tones. One of my friends fake tans a lot and she loves her contouring. It looks great on her.

So in the gift sets I got for Christmas were 3 products to highlight and strobe. All were completely different. I got the Ultra Strobe Balm Palette, Ultra Strobe Cream and Duo Baked Highlighter.

Ultra Strobe Balm Palette
This one comes in a good sized palette and looks very similar to the brands blusher palettes. In it are 8 creamy products. Each one has a different color to it and comes out as a pale metallic glow. The colors are not too heavy and are not strongly pigmented like a cream eyeshadow. You couldn't use these as eyeshadows as they are not designed for that. As they are a cream product I apply my foundation first and then pat the individual colors into areas I want to strobe, such as cheekbones and nose. I then go and apply my powder on top. The colors give a really nice glow to those areas. I'm sure you can buy this palette separately to the palette. This one is a great product and one I will be using again.

Ultra Strobe Cream
This one comes in a tube packaging and can be used underneath makeup, as a base or you can even apply it with your makeup. I like to use this before applying my foundation. I apply my primer first and then use this all over to give my skin a really nice glow. You can even use it in certain areas to make them stand out. My foundation goes really nice on top of this one and once powdered my skin has an all day glow to it. I definitely recommend this one as it's a fab product. It can also be bought separately to this set.

Duo Baked Highlighter
This one is a great shimmery powder you can use after applying your foundation to give your face an all over glow, or you apply it to certain areas of the face. It comes in a nice compact style packaging and features two baked colors in different shades. One is a pink while the other is a cream color. The colors can be mixed together or worn on their own. I didn't mix the colors, but decided to use them individually. It's got a really nice amount of pigment in it, blends nicely and gives your face a nice glow. This is another great highlighting product and I definitely recommend it.

I enjoyed using all 3 products and I will be using them again. If you love highlighting and strobing too I definitely recommend them.
