Primark PS Pro Range Review

I've seen many bloggers raving about Primark's PS Pro range of beauty products. Primark as you may be aware of is a store over here in the UK that is well known for it's budget clothing. It's got slightly better over the years and not so long ago released a range of makeup called PS Love. I've tried some items from PS Love and think it is alright. Recently they have released a new range of makeup called PS Pro which is supposed to be better quality than PS Love.

The PS Pro range features many different products including lipsticks, foundations and concealers. It's described by Primark as 'their line of premium beauty products. The Pro range aims to fill the void between high end and high street cosmetics.Ticking off all the cult items every make-up maven could need, our Pro range isn’t just super affordable, it’s way up their with all your current make-up bag faves. From lip treatments to colour-correcting saviours, these premium cosmetics are hot stuff right now.'

As you can read from Primark's description of the brand it does sound very good and the packaging does look more luxe compared to their PS Love range. As so many beauty bloggers raved about it I decided to try the range myself. I got quite a few items - foundation, lipsticks, primer, liquid lipstick and the color corrector concealer. Not all Primark's carry this range so if you want to try it out I recommend going onto their website and having a look which stores have this.

As the range is called PS Pro, I was really interested in trying out this line. I'm a qualified makeup artist so I'm always interested when I see a new brand calling itself pro. I decided to test the products individually to see what they were like.

PS Pro Longwear Mineralized Foundation £5.00

This is one product I have seen many bloggers rave about. It's a liquid foundation and comes in a good sized bottle. The packaging is really nice as it comes in a glass bottle with a pump, allowing you to get just the amount you want. I got this foundation in Porcelain which is the palest color available. As I am quite pale, finding a foundation that doesn't make me look orange can be tricky, especially when it comes to cheaper brands. The color on this one is great for paler complexions as it doesn't make me look at all orange.

It is surprisingly very high coverage too, so you don't need to use a lot at all. Budget brands don't very often make a foundation that offers high cover. Unfortunately this is where the good points about this foundation end. It does have quite a strong scent to it which does remind me a lot of paint and does feel heavy on, even if you don't use a lot. It does have quite a sticky feel to it and to set it you do need to use a lot of powder and even then it still will feel quite sticky. This is definately not a professional or premium standard foundation either. Not to mention it photographs very badly too and makes me look extremely pale (and that's not because it's a pale shade). A professional standard foundation will photograph very well. This foundation contains both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, both are notorious ingredients for causing flashback in photography. It's obvious by reading the description on Primark's website that they don't have a clue about what makes a professional standard foundation.

Finally, our long-wear foundation features titanium and zinc oxides, which have light-reflecting properties (that’s a radiant glow, to you and me!), natural SPF15, and are also anti-inflammatory.

I don't know about you, but I definitely don't consider flashback a radiant glow. Flashback is caused by the very ingredients that are in this foundation. The finish isn't great and it just feels very uncomfortable on the skin.

Not a great look

PS Pro Lipsticks £3.00

These lipsticks come in a range of different colors from natural to dramatic. They did have a good color choice in Primark and I decided to get the colors Midnight Crimson and Rock Star Purple. The packaging is supposed to look luxe and is one of those lipsticks you click the bottom and the lid separates. Now I really don't think the packaging looks luxe and does feel a bit cheap. Also in the one color, the click thing doesn't properly work. They both have a sort of slippery feel to them and are a bit sheer although I did manage to build both colors up. They may have looked great on but unfortunately they weren't long lasting, the color came off very easy. I also wasn't a fan of the glossy look either.

Now I did actually find a way to get them to last a bit longer. I tried applying my Ben Nye powder on top to set the colors. This did actually make the color last longer and take away the glossiness. If doing this, be sure to note applying too much powder can make the color feel dry and very uncomfortable. For a brand that is supposed to be premium quality you expect the color to last a lot longer, although I did find them better than the MUA and Makeup Revolution lipsticks.

PS Pro Longwear Lip Liner Pen £3.00
This product did look really interesting when I saw it. It's basically a felt tip lip liner. They come in a range of shades and I went for the bright pink one. The packaging I do like as it has a nice feel too it. Unfortunately when I tried it on my lips I didn't think much of it at all. It's described as being long wearing but as soon as I put it on it felt very dry and uncomfortable and I just wanted to take it off. It's not that easy to go over lines either and build them up. In fact when I tried to go over the line I had drawn on, it sort of went patchy. This is just one product I don't get. I just don't see the point of having a liquid lip liner. Pencil works really good. In fact I have found the PS Love pencil lip liners to be much better and this line is supposed to be premium.

PS Pro Illmunating Primer £5.00

This is actually one product from the range I actually found to be quite good. It's basically an illuminating primer. It's got quite a nice texture to it, although it did feel a bit runny when I squeezed it out of the tube. It applied evenly and gave my skin a nice glow before foundation. It didn't feel sticky or greasy either and made a nice base. My foundation went onto it nicely too. It can be used as either an illuminator or a primer, either works just as well. The foundation I use at the moment (Dior Forever) already looks great on my skin but I found this gave it extra illumination.

PS Pro Longwear CC Concealer £2.50

Redness is something I sometimes have trouble with so I often use a green color corrector. The green basically neutralizes the redness. From this line of makeup is the Pro Longwear CC Concealer. It comes in lipgloss style packaging which a doe foot applicator. Unfortuately the packaging on mine was just messed up as the lid just slid off. There was no twist in the tube at all. I think mine must have been faulty because i'm sure it isn't supposed to be like that. Now this concealer is extremely pigmented and when I say extremely, I really mean it. Usually that would be a good thing, but the problem with this is the green is a bit too intense. It blends out nicely but just stays very green. Color correctors go on a funny color, but the idea is to blend out and neutralize any problem areas. This just doesn't happen with this one.

Dodgy packaging

PS Pro Liquid Matte Lipstick £3.00

Fortunately there was one other product from this range that I did think was quite good. That was the PS Pro Liquid Matte Lipstick. It comes with a doe foot applicator which makes applying it really easy. The pigment was quite good and in two coats I got the color looking intense. It dries fairly quick too and gives a really nice matte finish. It also went on my lips really smooth too. This must be one of the only products from the PS Pro range that are actually worth getting. It was also really long lasting too, I didn't have to reapply it at all. I definitely recommend getting these ones and not the regular lipsticks in the range.

I did have high hopes for this brand after reading many bloggers raving about it. I was actually very disappointed with it, the quality in general is very poor and I would not describe this as a premium brand at all. It's definitely not professional quality either. To make a product professional it has to be to a certain standard you could use on clients or on a photoshoot. It has to be long lasting, excellent pigments and it has to photograph well. Professional products don't have to be expensive either. This range may be affordable but it's absolute rubbish. I can think of many other affordable brands I would rather get instead of this one - Barry M, L'Oreal, Max Factor and NYX.

I think the majority of beauty bloggers are misleading readers by raving over this brand. I just find it very odd when you get people like Wayne Goss saying how amazing it is. In his video he did on products from this range he even went so far to say he would use some of the products in his kit. I often wonder if those beauty bloggers are stating their own views or are sponsored by Primark. I just find it very strange that they can't find any bad points about this line of makeup, when there clearly are. Even I find things I don't like about high end products. The difference with me is if I don't like something I will actually say so.

I've only read one honest review about this brand and that's by a blogger called Jolien. I really appreciate her honest review about this range and it's refreshing to see a blogger being honest about things.

  1. I have liked a lot of products from the range but mainly skincare. The primer water is my favourite thing ever and the pro mascara is really good too. However, not liked much else. I do love their £1 lip liners though - I think I have six! x

  2. It's great to read an honest review for once. I think it so important to be honest with reviews and not giving people the wrong message.

  3. Not tried any of the makeup. I haven't trusted that it would be any good. Shame about the foundation! It's nice you found some good items. I do think it must be a lot less disappointing than paying for a higher end item x

  4. It is disappointing to see so many rave reviews on the range, when there are clearly so many issues with the majority of the products. Reviews don't do much good to anyone if they are not honest and give you true facts about the product.

  6. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Primark PS PRO makeup line, being one of the only bloggers who actually openly negatively reviewed the products it's nice to have someone who has my back. I'm a blogger who mainly reviews low budget makeup and the PS PRO makeup products are an absolute disaster compared to other brands like Essence, Catrice, NYC, Miss Sporty, KIKO etc. The quality is poor and it's such a shame many bloggers feel like they can't be honest :) Xxx

    1. The quality is awful. I've tried other budget brands and think they are far superior to PS Pro. I'm a makeup artist and find Ps Pro a joke as they are calling it premium makeup. Some bloggers go so far as to say it's high quality. I watched Wayne Goss' video on it too and there is something not right about it. He even said he would put the liquid lip liner into his kit. That is just one good advertisement for not having him do my makeup. I wouldn't pay someone to put that rubbish on my face, in fact i wouldn't even let them put it on me for free x

    2. I do wonder if the bloggers that rave about it are giving their own opinion or if they were sent the products by Primark. If they have, they haven't declared it x

    1. I didn't like the foundation. Not only is it a pale color anyway it also contains two main ingredients that cause flashback. Primark seem to think light reflecting means it will give a radiant glow, it doesn't. The lipsticks weren't that great either x

  10. My god the foundation it makes you look like a ghost and the packaging is definitely not luxe. I believe that you are right, those bloggers must have been sponsored by Primark!

    1. Something dodgy is definitely going on with those bloggers. If they were sponsored or sent the products, they never mentioned it on their blog. Even people were commented on Wayne Goss raving about it. People were saying he wasn't telling the truth x

  11. It would take a lot for a brand with products this cheap to have great quality. I've not actually tried any of the make up just the brushes and things which aren't bad x
