Yankee Candle Vs Village Candle

Scented candles are really popular at the moment and one brand i've been liking lately is Yankee Candle. They do a good range of scents in all different types of candle. From large jar candles to samplers, there is something for everyone.

The other month when I was shopping, this other range of candles really caught my eye. At first glance I thought it was Yankee, but turned out to be a completely different brand altogether called Village Candle. They look almost identical, very similar packaging and have designs on the candles too. They do however have their differences and do completely different scents. I decided to try some of their scents out.

Village, like Yankee offer three different sizes of jar candle, samplers, tea lights and even wax melts.

Village Candle

Yankee Candle

Unlike Yankee, Village candles have two wicks instead of one. At first I was a bit curious about the two wick thing. I've only really used one wick, so two was something different to me. Village also do scents that Yankee don't such as Rio Carnival, Margarita and Warm Buttered Bread.

Not only are the candles different, Village ones seem to be cheaper too as you get more for your money. A small jar candle at Yankee can cost £8.99 and you get 104g. Village's small jar candles are bigger at 701g and are £9.99.

Tropical Getaway
This one is definitely a scent for summer and is scented with coconut and pineapple. It's quite a strong scent and you can sort of smell it not long into burning. The two wicks these candles have create a larger wax pool and make the scent more noticeable. The scent got stronger the longer I burnt it and reminded me a lot of cocktails with Malibu.

Warm Buttered Bread
This one has exactly the described scent - warm buttered bread. It's a really nice warm scent and does actually remind me of taking freshly baked bread out of the oven. It's not a seasonal scent, although this is just the scent you need on a cold, wet day in winter.

Both brands offer a good product range, although after trying these Village Candles, I do sort of prefer them to Yankee. The scents are definitely stronger due to the two wicks and it stays in the room much longer too. I could still smell the scent two days after I burnt the candle. The wax pool goes to the edge of the jar much better with Village. Even after burning a small Yankee candle for hours, you still don't get the pool going completely to the edge.

I still like the scents that Yankee bring out and I will continue to buy their candles. Out of the two I definitely think Village is better.

Yankee Candle Beach Holiday

Beach Holiday is one of those scents from Yankee Candle that are unfortunately discontinued. I'd been looking for this candle for a while and I managed to get it when I went to the Yankee store in McArthur Glen. I decided to get it in a small jar candle and is one of those scents that are perfect for Spring and Summer.

Described as "Like a vacation by the shore anytime." This scent is a great one to get you feeling all summery. Once the scent started to appear this one immediately took me to long warm days at the beach and going into the ocean. It's a really nice clean, fresh scent and a great one to have.

It's a shame this one is discontinued as it is such a wonderful scent. This summer Yankee should be bringing out even more fantastic scents.

Yankee Candle Orange Dreamsicle

The other month I stopped by the Yankee Candle store at McArthur Glen in Bridgend. I'm really loving my scented candles, especially those from Yankee. The store there had many different scents and some really hard to find ones from collections gone by. One of the candles that really caught my eye was Orange Dreamsicle. It's one of those large jar candles and is apparently scented like orange ice lollies. It seemed like a very interesting scent which is why I had to put one in my basket.

The large jar candles from Yankee give an incredibly long burn time with up to 150 hours. The scent started to appear in around 20 - 30 minutes and gave off hints of orange. The longer I left it burn the scent did get stronger and is definitely a great one for the summer. It was so refreshing and immediately reminded me of days at the beach cooling down on a nice ice lolly. It wasn't extremely orangey but had a scent similar to Orange Crush soda.

This scent is a little gem and unfortunately quite hard to find now. Some Yankee stores, especially those at outlets may have this one left. I'm really glad I got this one when I did.

Yankee Candle Easter Gift Set

For Easter, Yankee have released this awesome gift set with fragrances perfect for this time of year. The packaging is very Easter themed with nice bright colors, flowers and eggs on the box. In this set are three sampler candles in - Vanilla Cupcake, Jelly Bean and Bunny Cake. The set also comes with a votive holder that you can put your candles in.

Vanilla Cupcake is the only scent out of the three that is available all year round. Bunny Cake and Jelly Bean I have heard are not going to be around all year, so this is a great time to get them. All three scents are quite sweet and definitely get you in the mood for all of that chocolate goodness next Sunday.

The scent is quite strong on all three. It's hard to decide which scent is the strongest.

Bunny Cake is scented with coconut, vanilla and definitely reminds me of birthday cake.

Jelly Bean has this awesome sugary fruity scent to it.

Vanilla Cupcake has a lovely sweet scent to it and immediately reminds me of chocolate and cakes. It smelt so good I just wanted to pick the candle up and eat it. Probably not a good idea.

While Vanilla Cupcake is available in wax melts and all sizes of jar candle. Bunny Cake and Jelly Bean only comes in large jar candles outside of this set. This is a great way of sampling all three fragrances without having to buy a large jar candle.

Yankee Candle Ocean Star

I'm really getting into my scented candles and one brand I really like is Yankee Candle. They do an awesome range of scents and very often they bring out limited edition ones. Last month I was shopping in Bath and noticed a store selling Yankee products. The store was bigger than the one here in Cardiff and I noticed that they had some large jar candles that I had never seen before.

I was told that they were from a collection a while ago and are now discontinued. They had a few to choose from and the one I liked best was called Ocean Star. You can probably guess from the name that it is themed to the sea. The picture on the jar sort of gives it away too and the candle is a really nice turquoise color.

The scent is really nice and fresh, a great one for summer. It reminds me of a warm summer day at the beach and going into the sea. This one has scents of aloe, citrus and lotus blossom. It's definitely really calming too.

The large jar candles from Yankee give around 110 to 150 hours of fragrance. I've never gone for a large jar candle before, but i'm really glad I did as this wonderful scent isn't available any more.
