Last month I discovered a makeup brand I have never heard of before - Golden Rose. I came across the brand when I was in Primark and had noticed a mini counter had appeared next to Primark's PS range of makeup. They even had a person working on the Golden Rose counter who even told me a bit about the brand. It's been around for some time and is from Turkey. I was also pleased to know the brand has nothing to do with Primark and is a separate company from them. I do find a lot of the PS stuff be not that great, so I was hoping that Golden Rose would be better.
The products look better quality and even though they are more expensive than PS, they are definitely still affordable. I decided to grab some products to try out. I got an eyeshadow primer, two eyeliners, two lipsticks, a color correcting crayon and two nail polishes.
While Golden Rose has a wide range of colors, unfortunately the colors are not named but instead have numbers. This is really annoying as it doesn't make blogging about it as easy, plus a color with a name sounds so much better than just numbers.
Golden Rose Velvet Matte Lipsticks
These lipsticks looked really good so I decided to get two colors in purple and bright pink. These are described on the Golden Rose website as having high pigment as well as a velvety matte finish on the lips.
The pigment I did think was good and they glided on nicely too. I didn't have to keep layering the color on to get it to show up either and even though these are matte they didn't dry my lips out. I know many mattes, especially cheaper ones can dry the lips out a lot. I think I paid around £3.00 each for these, which is quite good. They are only about £2.00 more than the PS ones as they don't have that nasty dry feel that the PS mattes do. I would definitely like to get more of these as I did quite like them, plus they come in around 39 colors.
Golden Rose Color Correcting Crayon
As I struggle with under eye circles, I thought I would try out one of the Color Correcting Crayons. Golden Rose offer four different colors - yellow, green, purple and peach. Yellow neutralizes purple undertones so this is the color that I chose.
This really isn't a bad product. It feels nice and creamy. Some crayons I have tried before feel very dry and go patchy. This one doesn't. To use I apply it around the under eye area and blend out to neutralize. Correcting the area first makes it a lot easy for under eye concealer to go on top, plus I don't have to use as much concealer either.
Golden Rose Dream Eyes Eyeliner
I love colored eyeliners so decided to give these ones a go. I got two in purple and blue. They aren't the best liners I have tried and are not the same pigment wise as my Urban Decay liners, but for the price they really aren't that bad. There was a good amount of pigment in them and I didn't have to push down or tug to get the color to show up.With a good under eye primer they didn't fade either.
Golden Rose Eyeshadow Primer
Out of all of the products I got from Golden Rose, this Eyeshadow Primer was the only one I didn't like. I always find with eyeshadow primers you really do need to spend on them. I've tried many cheap ones and found that they don't work and start creasing within a few hours. With this one it doesn't come with an applicator so you have to squeeze some out of the tube and then apply to the eyes that way. Call me fussy, but I prefer ones with an applicator as they are less messy and much easier to use.
This one didn't keep my eyeshadow crease proof and within a few hours my eyeshadow started to crease. If you want a good eyeshadow primer you need the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer or the NARS Smudge Proof Shadow Base.
Golden Rose Ice Chic Nail Color
Golden Rose offers a full range of nail polishes to choose from and you really will be spoilt for choice. I got two nail polishes in a pale blue and a bright pink. While not the best quality nail polish I have tried, they are not the worst either. They were a bit sheer, so you will need to apply two coats if you like the color looking intense. They also seem to dry fast which is a good thing.
Overall I'm really liking this brand and do want to try more products. Here in the UK, Primark is the only store I have seen selling it. I'm not sure where else you can buy products from as the official website doesn't seem to have an online store either. Although E Bay may have Golden Rose for sale.
I do recommend their products. You can check them out here.
